(Waterloo, Ont. – April 7, 2014) Waterloo city council has approved, with a hold on all development, an application for an official plan amendment and zone change for the development of a large format retail commercial centre at 924 and 930 Erb Street West. The full commercial centre would include a Costco, multiple retail and service commercial buildings and a gas bar.

In order to mitigate the impacts of increased traffic, a council revised motion has been accepted. In order for the development to proceed, this revised motion requires a complete and approved integrated multi modal traffic analysis, public open houses and community engagement, and all necessary transportation improvements in place.

In addition, council requests that the Region of Waterloo continue their accelerated advancement of the required transportation network improvements, to enable the anticipated west side development activity along Erb Street West and Ira Needles Boulevard.
